Sand dollar in a reliquary

AN273
The sand Dollar is a curious member of the fragile family of echinoderms (sea urchins, starfishes) with a flattened and circular shell, decorated with a star. We find them on the Mauritanian beaches where the dead shells derive and whiten in the sun. The sand dollar takes its name because of its similarity with an large coin lying on the sand.
