Boxfish (OSTRACION sp.)
PU1251-2
This boxfish (OSTRACION sp.) — easily recognised by its rigid, polyhedral body and its bright yellow coloration — lives in the shallow lagoon areas of tropical coral reefs.
As with most taxidermied fish, the natural colour fades rapidly after death, and has been carefully restored through recoloration in order to match the tones observed under water.
Displayed in an open black wood reliquary, the specimen appears delicately suspended in the centre of the structure. A classical presentation, true to the spirit of the cabinet of curiosities.
