Pencil Urchin ( Stylocidaris affinis) behind a magnifying glass
PU1111-4
For Pacific sea urchins, it’s like a stationery shop: there are several kinds of pencils! This species, Stylocidaris affinis, has rather sharp "pencils". These are of course its spikes. And you can meet it from 30 to -1000 meters deep in the Cuba - Carribean area . It is a rather nocturnal animal that tries to be discreet during the day by staying hidden under the rocks. This one will not be discreet at all, behind a vertical magnifying glass
