Large Amethyst slab from Brazil, on a brass base. A nice deep color for an amethyst mined in Pau d'Arco. Some crystals shows brownish dots inside the purple color: Iron oxyd that concentrated while the amethyst was growing. As the purple color of Amethyst partialy comes from iron impurities, it is just an over-concentration that produces these reddish spots inside the crystals. The natural green back of this piece is the Basalt matrix in which this geode took place.
