Amethyst block with Agate eye – Brazil
PUMI2724
This remarkable piece comes from an amethyst geode from Brazil. It displays, within a single section, the complete sequence of geode formation: layers of gray agate on basalt, a thickness of hyaline quartz in the center, and a final layer of amethyst crystals crowning the top. With a little surprise in addition: an eye of agate lost in the middle of the white quartz, which appeared during polishing.
Each layer marks a distinct geological stage — the slow deposition of silica forming the agate bands, the later filling with quartz, and finally the purple crystallisation of amethyst under the natural irradiation of iron.
This specimen clearly illustrates the transformation of a volcanic cavity into a geode. Displayed on a black base, it stands as both a collector’s mineral and a true natural curiosity, ideal for any cabinet of curiosities where geology
