Ammonite fosilized in Hematite Medium – Madagascar

This ammonite comes from southern Madagascar. It fossilized more than 100 million years ago, during the Cretaceous, in a vein of hematite that gives it this unique metallic black hue. Some even have points of pyrite: Black and Gold.
Ammonites are marine mollusks that have disappeared today. Their extinction coincides with that of the dinosaurs, about 66 million years ago.
The polishing reveals here the lines of sutures of the shell, an almost vegetal pattern that is just under the layer of mother of pearl. A rare fossil, at the crossroads of paleontology and mineralogy, which today imposes a sober but very strong aesthetic. We have 4 sizes discovered in 2025. It is the third in size, the one on the right on the picture.
