KERIVOULA PELLUCIDA – Woolly bat with translucent wings
AN496
This small woolly bat (KERIVOULA PELLUCIDA) comes from eastern Java, where it was collected in April 2023. It is also found in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, nesting high in the canopy of primary forests.
Its reddish fur and almost translucent wings make it easy to recognize. The short membrane between its hind legs gives it the look of a miniature wingsuit in flight.
Nocturnal and insectivorous, it hunts by echolocation, capturing insects mid-air with astonishing precision.
Mounted in a metal display cage, this specimen highlights the lightness and delicate anatomy of a creature built for the night.
