These first 12 centuries of the Christian church were published from 1588. These ecclesiastical records are the work of Caesar Baronius. He conceived these annals as an answer to "Historia ecclesiae Christi", a Lutheran, therefore Protestant work. And obviously it is a question of separating these two Christian currents to know who is the most faithful to the spirit of Christ... This huge encyclopaedia is based on many unexploited documents at the time ( Baronius was appointed librarian of the Vatican in 1597). The first edition ended in 1198 and consisted of 12 volumes. (the last printed in 1607). Here it is about 2 double volumes: volumes 13 & 14 (published in 1693) and 21 & 22 (published in 1727).
These two volumes, which constitute the continuation of these annals, are the work of Oderico Raynaldi who will continue the story from 1198 to 1565.
