Those 8" blushing phantoms", are lovely butterflies living from south Mexico to Peru between 200 and 800 meters high. These butterflies are crepuscular - they can sometimes be found in the middle of the day, but are far more often encountered at dusk than at any other time, when they emerge from the rain forrest to feed at rotting palm fruits. The flight is low over the ground, with slow wing beats: phantom-like. It normally settles with the wings closed, and at such times is extremely difficult to locate. But when fully opened like this: gorgeous.
