7 PAPILIO ULYSSES butterflies
IN364
The PAPILIO ULYSSES is one of the largest diurnal butterflies of Oceania. Native to Papua New Guinea, it is also found in northeastern Australia, where it has become the emblem of Queensland. With a wingspan that can exceed 14 cm, its iridescent electric blue wings—caused not by pigments but by the microscopic structure of its wing scales—can be seen from several meters away.
An unusual but well-documented fact: males are so attracted to blue that they have been seen flying towards bright blue shirts or plastic bags, mistaking them for potential mates.
A striking decorative object for any natural history or curiosity collection.
