Fossil In cage : ALETHOPTERIS ZEILLERI from Montceau les Mines
PUFO464-3
The fern Alethopteris zeilleri, dating from the Carboniferous about 300 million years ago, was unearthed in the mines of Montceau-les-Mines, France. These mines, once active in coal mining, have preserved exceptional remains of ancient flora thanks to favourable geological conditions. Alethopteris zeilleri belongs to a genus of ferns typical of this period. Interesting contrast between the past and the modernity of its presentation in a rectangular iron cage.
