Crinoid with skeleton – Ukraine

A prehistoric piston? In fact, it is about fossils of crinoids, more precisely the peduncle: the stem that connects the mouth and arms of the animal, to the ground. The phenomenon is exceptional since the fossilisation began when this peduncle was whole (a round stem), then the outside disappeared to leave only the calcareous skeleton: these small articulated discs called entroques. Here, several peduncles intersect in this seafloor dating from the Carboniferous era (-300 million years ago) and found in the region of Donetsk, in Ukraine.
