Pyrope garnet on chromium diopside (Norway)
PUMI2426-1
Pyrope garnet is a semi-precious stone. It owes its color to the presence of chromium ions in its chemical composition. The most transparent garnets are often cut into jewellery. Diopside is a mineral in the pyroxene group. It can be transparent to translucent, and its color often varies from green to white.
When these two minerals meet, pyrope garnet, deep red, contrasts with chrome diopside, intense green. This combination creates an amazing color combination, making it a remarkable piece. This mineral formed at a depth of 40 km near the heart of our planet, and it rose to the surface during the geological movement (orogeny) of the Devonian 400 million years ago.
it was discovered in the Tokke region of Telemark County, southeast Norway.
