Sternoceras elytra per square meter (cusmom made)
IN303
An iridescent material made of elytra (wing case) of jewel bettles from Laos - Sternoceras Aequisignata- These beetles whose colors naturally range from blue to green, are part of the Buprestidae family. They spend their larval life ( 2 years) in tree trunks, and their adult life is short (3 weeks). They are therefore focused on rapid reproduction. It can be found through Thailand, Myanmar up to India. It was common in some of the ancient refined cultures of Burma and Thailand to attach beetlewing pieces as an adornment to textiles and jewelry. The many "night markets" of Laos offer many fried insects (scorpions, cicadas...) and among them these sternoceras rid of their elytra: too hard to be consumed. So we have agreements with several "insect restaurants" to buy their "peelings". Because they are just beautiful! Artist Jan Fabre used 1.5 million of these elytra to decorate the ceiling of the Royal Palace of Belgium. On treated wood pannel, ready to fix.
