Charonia Tritonis

The Giant Triton is this famous shell used by the Greek gods as a trompe, at least in the representations that have been made of it. It is a carnivorous shell that feeds on other molluscs and even starfish that it kills with its venomous sting. It is found at shallow depths from the Indo Pacific to Florida. It is even one of the emblems of Vanuatu where it can be seen on coins and banknotes.
