Window oyster shell (PLACUNA PLACENTA)
AN487
Native to the muddy seabeds of the Philippines — especially in the Capiz Province — PLACUNA PLACENTA, commonly known as the window oyster, is a bivalve noted for its exceptionally flat and translucent shell.
Although edible, the species has been valued for centuries primarily for its shell, which has been used as a natural glass substitute thanks to its transparency and durability. Capiz shells have traditionally been incorporated into lamps, screens and small architectural elements throughout Southeast Asia.
Carefully prepared and mounted on a black base, this specimen is presented as a natural curiosity.
