CARDIUM COSTATUM in a cage
AN492
It looks like a mini giant clam, but the CARDIUM COSTATUM is a sea shell from the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and the Indo-Pacific. It is commonly found around Madagascar, living buried in sandy coastal bottoms. Only its siphons emerge above the surface, filtering the water for organic particles.
Its thick shell is marked by strong radial ribs, a regular relief that explains its Latin name costatum (“ribbed”).
Here, the specimen is displayed in a minimalist metal cage.
A shell once hidden in the sand, now transformed into a natural curiosity and a true cabinet of curiosities object.
