SCOLECITE (Yeola, India)
PUMI2700
SCOLECITE is a delicate fibrous mineral formed by the aggregation of hundreds of fine crystals radiating from a central point. This fan-like growth results from the gradual deposition of calcium silicate in hydrothermal waters rich in calcite. The most sought-after specimens come from the Yeola area in the Indian state of Maharashtra, where fractures in ancient basalt flows provided the ideal conditions for crystallisation.
In this piece, the crystals form a particularly airy structure and are displayed in a glass collector’s box, protecting the fragile network while revealing its radial architecture.
