CORALLOID ARAGONITE (Portugal)
PUMI2704
This CORALLOID ARAGONITE comes from central Portugal, a region well known in mineralogy for its exceptionally pure white formations. It developed in karstic cavities — natural voids formed in limestone by slightly acidic waters rich in calcium carbonate.
The specimen shows two distinct crystal habits:
– smooth rounded nodules, typical of botryoidal growths;
– and acicular crystals (thin, needle-like forms) grouped into small radial clusters.
This alternation reflects several phases of mineral deposition and adds scientific value to the piece.
Displayed under a rectangular glass dome with a brass base, the specimen retains its fragility while clearly revealing the natural relief of the crystallisation.
