Blue Sea Star with yellow dots (Linckia laevigata)
PU1210
In the world of starfish, Linckia laevigata is a true icon with its long arms and bright colors. this one is a combination of light blue with yellow dots.
It can be found in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific, from the Maldives to the Great Barrier Reef, including the waters of the Philippines and Indonesia. Unfazed by its surroundings, it slowly roams the ocean floor in search of tiny microorganisms to snack on.
Like many of its relatives, it has an impressive trick up its sleeve: regeneration. Lose an arm? No problem. It grows back. In some cases, a single detached arm can even regenerate into a whole new starfish.
This star may look delicate, but it’s tougher than it seems.
