Five-armed sea star LINCKIA LAEVIGATA
PU1106-4
This five-armed specimen belongs to the species LINCKIA LAEVIGATA, a tropical sea star found on coral reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific. Unlike the more common bright blue individuals, this one displays a delicate pink-beige hue that highlights the finely textured, cylindrical arms.
Measuring over 45 cm across, it’s a strikingly large specimen. On the upper surface, a slightly off-centre disk marks the madreporite — the organ through which the sea star filters seawater to breathe and regulate internal pressure.
A graphic, understated marine curiosity, perfect for any modern cabinet of curiosities.
