Bathynomus doederleinii is a marine isopod, so with an articulated exoskeleton, living in the deep sea (300 to 700 meters deep) in the West Indo-pacific zone. This one has been captured near Cebu -Philippines- They are the largest deep-sea scavenger of the world, feeding on fishes and marine mammals that fell on the ocean floor. But they are also infamous for attacking and destroying fish caught in trawls. The fragmented display "eclate de Beauchene" shows all the different parts of its articulated body.
