Lachrymatory vase under glass
PU709-2
This Lachrymatory has been found in an ancient Roman cemetery dating from the occupation of Lebanon by the Romans during the 3 first centuries after Jesus Christ. Thought to hold the tears of mourners during the funeral of an important person. The vase was then buried wis the deceased to ease his way to an eternal life.
The shady aspect of the glass is due to the difficulty to heat properly the sand to make glass, nearly 2000 years ago. This one still has the iridescent colors it used to have!
