Flying gurnard taxidermy
PU798
Of course the flying Gurnard is not a bird, but dispite its look, it's not even a flying fish! In fact the Dactylopterus Volitans, is a fish that remain at a low depth, but on the sand. It's rather square head is covered with bone plates. When frightened or willing to impress, it spreads the 25 to 30 long fixed fins that make up its pectoral fins and this opens a pair of true wings magnificently lined with blue. It can be found along the African coast. This one comes from the Gulf of Guinea.
