pyritized Crinoïde in brass industrial display
PUFO295
There have been approximately 6000 species of fossil Crinoids around the world . And a few hundreds live nowadays. Their common name is Sea Lilies, as they are made of a long stem attached to the rock, a Calyx with the digestive organs, and the feeding arms. The crinoids had their heyday in the Paleozoic periode (-540 to-250 million years) where they formed real submarine forest. This piece has been discovered in Dorset, England, and the species is Pentacrinites: 5 arms. It is displayed in an industrial but precious mount made of brass sheet, that matches quite well the color of the Crinoid that contains some Pyrit.
