manuscripte bible from Lalibela on parchment (Geez
PUL188
This wooden cover bible was written in Guèze. An ancient language spoken until the 4th century in the "horn of Africa". It is also called ancient Ethiopian. This language then remained linked to the liturgy in The Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Although there were also medieval narratives written in Guèze, it is indeed a manuscript bible. It was written on parchment (goat skin) in black and red ink. Several hand-painted scenes also. A work probably produced in the region of Lalibela, a very beautiful city-museum with 11 troglodytic churches. Birthplace of the Orthodox faith in Ethiopia. 17th or 20th century? difficult to determine because it was done in the same way.
