The world’s largest bivalve clam species, the famous giant clam that has always spawned legends of divers held underwater between its powerful shells. Of course, it is a young Tridacna Derasa, but this subspecies usually does not exceed 60cm. Its growth initially is about 5cm per year and then it will slow to 3cm per year. So it is not a very young giant clams. Like most giants, this species is in danger because too much harvested, either for its flesh in Asia, or as a decorative shell . It comes from a farm in Micronesia that hopes to regenerate the local population... But in that case, it did not succeed.
