Slice of malachite in brass adjustable round stand
PUMI1989-2
This malachite slice comes from the Congo, from Katanga province. It has been polished on one side to reveal the multitude of shades of green it contains. This natural circle comes from a stalagmite formed in a cavity, below a ceiling loaded with copper ores. The one you see in the last picture. Since ancient times, Malachite has been used as a pigment in the paint for its light and bright blue-green tones, especially in the painting of icons.
