Fairy stone from Morocco on black base

Attractive, and bizarre natural formations these natural sculptures often make you think of an animal shape or a human figure . They are made of tiny grains of calcium carbonate (sandstone) cemented together by silica deposited by water circulating within the sand layer. The whitest ones are made up almost entirely of silica and therefore has about the same composition as a quartz crystal. The shape of each piece, always very different, makes all the value of these minerals that are found in Quebec under the name of Imatra stones, made by deposits of glaciers, in France where we find the largest in the world: the Gogottes de fontainebleau, and finally in Morocco where these Fairy Stones, also called Menalite, are found near a former phosphate mine in Youssoufia.
