Fossilized cleoniceras with opalinized MOP in red.
PUFO420-3
This spectacular ammonite is a Cleoniceras Besairei from Madagascar. Carefully elaborated to preserve the layer that surrounded that prehistoric sea shell. The lack of acidity in the depositional environment helped keep the beautifull mother of pearl color that this shell used to have. But above all, this mother-of-pearl has become opalinized, which has given rise to these flamboyant red reflections. This ammonite lived during the Cretaceous, around 110 million years ago.
