Giant yellow sea fan on brass base
PU725-2
This sea fan is a giant in its species: GORGONIA VENTALINA. That's the reason why it has left the yellow color typical of the small ones of this species. The main branches of this one are more pinkish than purple. This tall fan shape comes from the Bahamas. Its squeletton, composed of calcite and a collagen-like substance is produced by small coral polyps, embedded in the branches, feeding on plankton drifting past with the current.
