Slice of fossil wood (Madagascar) on brass base
PUFO347-4
About 220 million years old, this petrified Araucaria (coniferous) from Madagascar went through the ages to become a mineral. This long process began when transported by rivers, the tree trunk was buried under sedimentary deposits, then gradually, silica replaced wood carbon (this principle is called epigenization).
We have sawn and polished this fossilized slice of wood to reveal the growth rings as well as these elegant warm brownish/ red colors.
