The sand Dollar is a curious and fragile member of the family of echinoderms (sea urchins, starfishes) with a flattened and circular shell, decorated with a star. Its elegant purple color comes from the decoloration of its spikes on the skeleton. The sand dollar takes its name because of its similarity with an large coin lying on the sand. this is the largest species of sand dollar in the world: 19.5cm High.
