In the spirit of 19th-century encyclopaedic knowledge, La revue contemporaine brought together monthly, in a volume of about 800 pages, editorials and articles on culture (theatre, poetry, music) of politics and literature or philosophy. From 1852, a first series will last 5 years, then the second series will start in 1858 and continue for 12 years. the 3rd series will stop in 1886. It is 12 volumes divided between the first and second series.
