Selenite is a mineral that can be considered a variety of gypsum. Selenite crystals are often found near, or even within, a vein of gypsum. It comes in a crystallized form, frequently translucent to transparent, with a color varying between colorless and reddish. It is mainly composed of calcium. Many have been found in Italy (near Bologna) but this one comes from the Laurel Hill mine (NJ -US)
