This large slice of Agate has beautiful internal patterns with successive layers that were deposited in the air-pocket where it was born, millions of years ago in Brazil, up to the perfect circle in the center. But this color that makes it so beautiful comes from a lab experiment conducted in 2021. Green Agates like this do not exist in nature. For 2000 years men have dyed certain minerals (such as Onyx or Chalcedony) to make them more desirable. But a team of Brazilian scientists wanted to find an alternative to the traditional methods very polluting: heating to 80 degrees for 7 days with a solution of Gasoil and chemical dyes, then hot sulfuric acid for 10 hours. This is still the method used in most dyied Agates found
This beautiful psychedelic slice was part of this cold immersion experience in organic tinctures, for 8 days. Agate is micro-porous and this allows the color to seep into the very structure of the mineral, more or less according to the deposits of different density.
The result is spectacular, even if it took human intervention to get there!
