Green epidote (Spain) under glass

These small green needles that cover a plate of Dolerite (magmatic rock that has cooled slowly) are crystals of Spanish Epidote. The Serranos quarry is currently in operation. In this quarry, an outcrop of dolerite is exploited for road construction. This formation took place in Triassic rocks (Keuper facies): marls, gypsum and carbonate rocks. Its green color is due to the presence of iron ions in its structure. But above all, this intense green color is superb!
