Giant polished Turbo with needle coral

A great classic in cabinets of curiosity since the eighteenth century. This large pearl shell with pink reflections is actually a giant green Turbo from Madagascar. It has been fully polished to highlight the layer of mother-of-pearl. This species has been fished commercially for a long time to make buttons for coats because it has a very thick layer of mother-of-pearl. This Turbo is home to peak corals (Seriatopora Hystrix) that seem to have invaded the shell.
