Half-geode of septaria from Poland, in a vertical circular stand
PUMI2658
This half-geode of septaria, from Polish deposits, is the result of rare geological conditions. Septaria form in shallow marine environments, where clay sediments compact to form nodules. In Poland, deposits dating from the Cretaceous period have favoured this crystallisation, giving rise to structures with singular patterns.
The characteristic cracks in the septarias, filled with yellow calcite and dark minerals, create a striking play of contrasts.
Here, the finesse of the mounting highlights the crystallised core of the piece.
