Cornaline is above all sought after for its intense vermilion colour. It is a mineral of the Chalcedony family (the silicates), and it is slightly translucent. This sphere was polished in Madagascar from a very intense vein in colour which also has more orange zones, depending on the proportion of aluminum oxide and iron.
