Large polished Ammonite from Madagascar on brass base
PUFO405-4
This Cleoniceras ammonite is called fern-ammonite. It comes from Madagascar and has more than 100 million years. This piece has a real scientific interest: the fern patterns that cover its surface. This is the deep layer of its shell. The one that is just under the MOP layer of this prehistoric sea-shell. That's the way its shell is intricated, and how it became so strong. We thus understand the strategy born from the evolution of this species to be as solid as possible, and resist predators such as mosasaurus, who loved to chew ammonites!
