Calyptratus Chameleon (Yemen) – on petrified Wood Sphere (Madagascar)
PU1222
Native to the arid mountains of Yemen, Chamaeleo calyptratus is easily recognised by its tall casque and vivid colours. This female, recoloured after taxidermy, regains its typical hues: a bold green highlighted with yellow and orange. It was born in captivity in the Czech Republic in August 2020.
The chameleon is displayed on a petrified wood sphere from Madagascar — an unexpected pairing between a reptile frozen in motion and ancient wood turned to stone over millions of years.
A piece at the intersection of the mineral and the living — exactly where we like to stand.
