GALAXEA Fossil
PUFO502-3
This planet with white craters is indeed a coral, and the delicate white patterns visible on this sphere are those of a fossilized coral of the genus GALAXEA. It comes from the south-west of Madagascar, in an area that is now inland but which formed part of an ancient seabed prior to the last glaciation. As it is extracted from a terrestrial deposit, this fossil material is not subject to CITES.
Buried at approximately one metre underground, these dark grey blocks contain a naturally white core, which is cut and shaped entirely by hand. This sphere was made near Morombe, by an artisan from the Vezo ethnic group, and the production remains extremely limited.
It is mounted on a centrifuged brass base — an exclusive Objet de Curiosité design inspired by 19th-century scientific instruments, with a distinctly rétrofuturist / steampunk aesthetic.
A true natural curiosity.
