Open Amethyst Geode from Brazil (5Kg)
PUMI2533
Amethyst is a type of purple quartz, of magmatic origin. And this open geode looks strangely like a smiling mouth...
It is found in cavities formed millions of years ago by old gas bubbles frozen in lava, in which very hot water concentrated in silica and iron minerals circulated. It is the more or less important amount of iron minerals and their type, which will determine the coloring of these sublime crystals.
As it cooled, this water began to leave deposits on the cavity walls, turning them into beautiful purple crystal geodes in a few million years.
