Life cycle of dragonfly on black easel
AN458
Pantala Flavescens This dragonfly goes through very different stages during its life. It begins its as a carnivorous aquatic larva, feeding on its own congeners, then later on very young fishes. Then his second life is in the air. It migrates within the tropical zone but has been observed as far as Canada for the North and New Zealand for the South. It has even been calculated that this tireless traveler can travel 3500 km over the Indian Ocean (perhaps with the help of the wind). This species adapts well to the environment modified by man, because artificial water reserves have fewer species, and therefore less competition for the development of larvae... The larvae develop in less than two months, allowing them to fly away before the pond dries out. Its development here has been reduced to 2 stages, while in nature it has 12.
