6 green Blumei butterflies in glass, brass base.

The Papilio blumei, often nicknamed the ‘emerald butterfly’, is a diurnal butterfly, active during the day, found in Borneo, Sulawesi and Papua New Guinea. With an impressive wingspan of 12 to 14 cm, its iridescent wings offer a spectrum of shades from emerald green to turquoise blue, depending on the angle of the light. This phenomenon is due to the microstructure of their scales, which diffract the light and create this uniquely brilliant effect.
These six specimens are presented in a round globe. The scalloped brass base, typical of Objet de Curiosité creations, adds an elegant, graphic touch to the whole.
