The Lingams come from the bed of the Narmada River located in the Mandhata Mountain, one of the 7 sacred places of pilgrimage in India. It is in the Madhya Pradesh, in Omkareshwar. The body of the stone is the representation of the male energy, and its shape is clearly phallic. There are swayambhu-lingams which are natural, not touched by man and a temple has often been built around them. (Vaguely ovoid shape). And the bana-lingams that come only from this river. A pebbles, at the bigining, picked up only by a few authorized families. They are repolished in order to achieve this brilliant aspect.
Hindus worshipers of the god Shiva have rituals that consist in pouring liquid offerings on this lingam (honey, milk, tea...) and in order not to be stained, this lingam made of Jasper is deeply nourished by wax.
