25 million years old petrified tree trunck from Germany (Zwickau). These crystalized waves are the bark of an Glyptostrobus Europaeus, 40 meters high tree that used to grow during the Oligocene period in humid forests. The remarkable point about this trunck, is that it felt in a swamp or lake that has been over-loaded with minerals. So that it didn't rot, without oxygen, but slowly replaced the cellulosic fibers by minerals and finnaly a layer of shinny clear quartz crystal: that is permineralization. It took million of years, but it's worth it!
