Fossil fern in cage : PECOPTERIS POLYMORPHA
PUFO467-3
This fossil Pecopteris polymorpha, dating back to the Carboniferous about 300 million years ago, was discovered in the mines of Montceau-les-Mines, in France. These mines, exploited for coal mining, have preserved exceptional remains of prehistoric flora due to favorable geological conditions. Pecopteris polymorpha belongs to a genus of ferns characteristic of this era: tree ferns. Part of a collection from the 1970s, identified at that time.
