Block of 9 irridescent ammonites from Russia
PUFO480
The brightest ammonites can be found in the Volga river basin. A unique color between the golden and the pearl. These Quenstedtoceras lamberti come from the now closed mine of Dubki, region of Saratov in Russia- they are all covered by their original shell and therefore the mother-of-pearl that compose it. In this clay mine, there is also a lot of pyrite (if we cut these ammonites, they have very often been pyritized: the internal partitions were replaced by pyrite). And it is a clay very loaded with pyrite that cements these ammonites together. Callovian -160 million years-
